Welcome to a new Inside Ottawa Valley feature where we present unique real estate listings and stories from the area.

Have you ever thought about going the minimalist route, packing your life and living among nature?

If this sounds like you, but still don’t want to live the “rustic” life, there’s hope.

A “unique” and small modular style home — not to be confused with mobile — is up on the market and could be yours.

The home, located at 119 Parsons Way, just outside of Watsons Corners in Lanark Highlands, is 500 square feet, sitting on 2.49 acres of land. Its asking price is $379,000.

According to Tanya Evoy, from Evoy Real Estate, the drive itself to the property is “absolutely beautiful,” with winding roads, and it's far from Lanark Village and other amenities. Wildlife may also greet you.

Evoy, who’s working with her clients to sell the house, said it’s the perfect structure for couples or individuals who are looking to downsize, take on the minimalist lifestyle, or if the township permits, create it into an Airbnb property.

Evoy said the concept of the house, with this one specifically being completed at the beginning of 2022, has become quite popular in the U.S., with the builders of this unit creating similar ones for celebrities.

According to Evoy, what makes the house even more of a top seller is the high-end finishes, as well as the floor to ceiling windows, at the front and back, which at night, makes it feel like you’re sitting under the stars while cozied up in bed.

“(The build) is not the same as a typical modular home, (that) you would get, it’s much more high-end,” Evoy said.

Though the house is small, Evoy and her clients are quick to point out, it has character.

It’s a one-bedroom, one-bathroom space, with a crawl space for extra storage. The house has “gleaming white tile” and while it may seem small, the client reassured there’s room for regular sized appliances, which are included, as well as a combination washer and dryer unit.

This house is great for those downsizing, living a minimalist life, or who may want to create it an Airbnb, if the township agrees, the agent says. | Evoy Real Estate/Realtor.ca/Ottawa Real Estate Board photo

There’s also a free-standing propane stove in the living room, a kitchen stove, water and septic hooked up, a mini split heat pump (for heat, air conditioning, dehumidifying), a radiant wall heater, and other means to make the house efficient and cost friendly.

The house also meets Ontario building codes.

On top of all the things that make this house a “dream,” the fact that it’s in nature, but close to town and other areas is an added bonus.
