KINGSTON, N.Y. — Another round of severe thunderstorms and even an isolated tornado are possible across the Mid-Hudson Valley on Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service at Albany said Sunday it has placed the region under a “marginal risk” for severe thunderstorms. A news release said the storms are expected to hit the area mostly during the afternoon to evening hours, with the main threats being damaging wind gusts and even an isolated tornado.

The forecast calls for an 80 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Monday, mainly after 10 a.m.

Forecasters said the storms could also produce “prolonged or repeated downpours, which could lead to localized flooding of urban, low-lying and poor drainage areas.”

The chance for more severe weather comes less than a week after a round of severe thunderstorms Wednesday evening spawned a tornado and macroburst that brought 90 mph to parts of the towns of Ulster and Hurley, downing numerous trees and damaging homes.

Behind Monday’s forecasted storms, temperatures are expected to soar into the high 80s and low 90s through the remainder of the week with moderate to high humidity, forecasters said.

Forecasters said the combination of hot temperatures and humidity on Wednesday and Thursday could allow heat indices to reach the mid-90s to near 100 degrees for some elevations below 1,000 feet and heat advisories may need to be issued.
